Through the clinical case of a young woman struggling with memories of an insult she suffered from, this work, guided by Lacanian concepts, addres-ses the notion of devastation as a catastrophic subjective experience in the mother-daughter relationship. Following an introduction to the concept of devastation, the context for this clinical follow-up and its therapeutic developments are described. This concept is further construed and in this perspective a hypothesis is elaborated whereby the psychological devastation is seen to emerge as a traumatic experience unable to sustain its effects, in other words a trauma deprived of its neurotic resources.
