The authors discuss how the clinical psychologist working in an Adolescent Crisis and Hospitalization Unit can facilitate an encounter with the adolescent in the grip of destructiveness, and initiate symbolization work. More specifically, based on a clinical case, they discuss how the clinical psychologist can create a place of protection for the adolescent in the face of his own violence, and how the care team can act as a “sufficiently malleable” and solid intermediary to receive and deal with manifestations of adolescent destructiveness.
