Appended to the Lucien translated by his uncle Perrot (1654), the Supplément de l’Histoire veritable by Jean Jacobé Frémont d’Ablancourt is a rare case of a modern sequel to an Ancient novel. While he claims to shun his model’s characteristic gratuitousness, the writer, instead of a faithful imitation, uses to an original blend of several genres. After an analysis of its composition, we turn to some hypotheses about the possible allegorical meaning, political and philosophical, of this narrative. Finally, we point to its notable success in readership, linked to the vogue of the True Stories. It is indeed a landmark in the history of imaginary voyages.
