This article focuses on the Entry of Marie de Medici in 1638 in Amsterdam and on the account published on this occasion by Caspar Barlaeus. It shows how, for the first time, the city had the opportunity to confront the genre of the royal entrance. The use a European artistic language was intended to favour a rapprochement with France, as the city wanted to intercede on behalf of the queen for a reconciliation with his son Louis XIII. However, unpublished sources found in the diplomatic archives show the unsuccessful reception of this royal entrance, especially from a French perspective.
