La première réaction du critique est un mouvement de colère, mêlant l’ironie à la déception. À partir de la définition du Salon de 1846, on donnera un aperçu des liens intimes qui unissent, dans Le Spleen de Paris plus particulièrement, le poncif théâtral au monde de l’enfance. On observera comment Baudelaire prend l’exemple du théâtre pour illustrer la fécondité de l’imagination enfantine et comment cette imagination devient le remède idéal au poncif.
