The historian Dina Porat shows how becoming aware of the Genocide beginning with November 1942, determined a “before” and an “after” in the political and emotional reactions of the Yishuv. Continuous mourning demonstrations, which then followed, went without effect, as did the petitions and popular fasting. They become more and more scarce in 1943, and stop completely in 1944. This revealing the powerlessness then existing, which one often forgets now-a-days, under the influence of one’s awareness of present Israeli capabilities.
