This article investigates the timeline of information the Vatican received from occupied Poland regarding the persecution and mass killing of Jews between June 1941 and October 1942. It outlines the communication channels between occupied Poland and the Holy See, assessing their dependability and trustworthiness. Additionally, it explores what these sources conveyed about the unfolding Holocaust and analyzes how the Holy See responded to this intelligence. The article shows Pius XII was extensively informed about the Final Solution from his trusted sources as it unfolded. The findings imply this intelligence was concealed diplomatically by the Vatican, highlighting the previously opaque human element influencing backstage decision-making within the Secretariat of State. Additionally, it proposes further research avenues into the Vatican’s actions regarding Jewish persecution and murder.
