The "eurocommunism", a lost opportunity ; the "euro-left", the social democratic outcome of a progressive loss of identity. The former required a sui generis theory of state and of democracy which it was unable to elaborate. The latter adopts the liberal democratic theory. The crisis of Italian Marxism is above all that of Togliatti's historicism. A new paradigm is yet to be elaborated, condition of any reconstruction : the reconquest of an anti-capitalist political expressivity.
