This article examines the link between death and politics in the work of Elias Canetti. We will study this relation starting from the search for the political problem of universality in Canetti, in orden to show how death appears in his texts as that that simultaneously habilitates and makes impossible the search for the universal. The unfolding of this aporia will unveil, at the same time, the primacy of a certain bond between politics and temporality, insofar if politics supposes the tie of humanity with the dead and the non-born, this link can only emerge from a time that is unhinged, from a beyond-of-the-living-present. El presente artículo examina el vínculo entre muerte y política en la obra de Elias Canetti. Se abordará esa relación a partir del rastreo del problema político de la universalidad en Canetti, para mostrar cómo la muerte aparece en sus textos como lo que simultáneamente habilita e inhabilita la búsqueda de lo universal. El despliegue de esta aporía revelará, al mismo tiempo, la primacía de un cierto lazo entre política y temporalidad, ya que si la política supone el vínculo de la humanidad con los muertos y con los no nacidos, este solo puede emerger a partir de un desquicie del tiempo, de un más allá del presente vivo.

This article examines the link between death and politics in the work of Elias Canetti. Se abordará esa relación a partir del rastreo del problema político de la universalidad en Canetti, para mostrar cómo la muerte aparece en sus textos como lo que simultáneamente habilita e inhabilita la búsqueda de lo universal. El despliegue de esta aporía revelará, al mismo tiempo, la primacía de un cierto lazo entre política y temporalidad, ya que si la política supone el vínculo de la humanidad con los muertos y con los no nacidos, este solo puede emerger a partir de un desquicie del tiempo, de un más allá del presente vivo.
