| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’objectif du travail est d’évaluer la qualité de vie d’enfants âgés de 6 à 12 ans. Les auteurs présentent les différentes étapes conceptuelles et opérationnelles qui ont conduit à la construction d’un prototype. Il s’agit d’un outil générique composé de 63 items qui recouvrent les domaines de vie classiquement décrits. Son originalité tient au mode de construction faisant appel au concours d’enfants, à la représentation imagée des situations de vie présentées et à son adaptation au sexe de l’enfant. L’évaluation de cet outil a montré sa très bonne acceptabilité, mais a révélé des insuffisances métrologiques. Celles-ci ont conduit à réviser les choix conceptuels initiaux et les modalités d’exploration, puis à construire un nouvel outil dont la validation sera présentée dans un second article5. |

| Summary, etc. | The objective of this work was to assess the quality of life of children aged 6 to 12 years old. The authors present the different conceptual and operational steps which lead to the construction of a prototype tool. It was a generic tool composed of 63 items which covered the classically described areas of life. Its originality was due to the method of construction used which included children’s involvement, to the pictorial representation of real-life situations for children, and to its adaptation for gender. The evaluation of this tool showed a good level of acceptability but statistical analysis revealed some metrological inadequacies leading to the reconsideration of the initial concepts and their methods of exploration. Therefore a new tool was constructed whose validation is presented in a second article in the next issue. |
