Summary, etc. Le parcours d’Hélène Guinepied, artiste peintre de l’entre-deux guerres formée à l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, va l’amener de la peinture académique à l’enseignement du dessin libre, trajectoire unique chez les femmes artistes de sa génération. Animée par un idéal de justice sociale et de progrès, elle s’investit dans un militantisme de terrain et invente, en 1920, la Méthode de dessin libre à grande échelle1 ou Méthode Helguy qui va rencontrer un vif succès. Elle est soutenue dès 1926 par d’éminents acteurs de la pédagogie française. Malgré le succès de sa méthode et ses efforts pour la diffuser, Hélène Guinepied ne parviendra pas à prendre sa place dans le milieu de la pédagogie. Ce texte retrace la trajectoire d’une artiste et d’une pédagogue dont l’apport à l’éducation nouvelle ne peut être ignoré.

Summary, etc. Hélène Guinepied, a painter from the interwar period trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, has build a personal path that will lead her from academic painting to the teaching of free drawing, a single trajectory among women artists of her generation. Led by an ideal of social justice and progress, she fights for the education of women in the country and invented in 1920 the «Méthode de dessin libre à grande échelle exécutée au pinceau» which would meet a great success. This drawing method was supported as early as 1926 by eminent actors of French Pedagogy. Despite the success of her method, and her efforts to disseminate it, Hélène Guinepied will not manage to gain real recognition in the environment of pedagogy. This article traces the trajectory of an artist, craftswoman and teacher whose contribution to the free education can not be denied.
