| Summary, etc. | RésuméAu xviiie siècle, les femmes profitèrent du désintérêt, lié à une forme de mépris de la part des hommes pour les romans, pour investir ce territoire de la littérature, et saisirent rapidement tous les bénéfices que l’on pouvait tirer d’une forme dont la souplesse permettait d’exprimer leurs idées sur les sujets qui leur tenaient à cœur, et délivrer agréablement des leçons de morale. La production romanesque des auteurs femmes des Lumières fait apparaître la présence marquée d’un bestiaire, à la fois outil narratif et motif romanesque qui renseigne sur les mœurs, l’esthétique d’une période, et sur l’éthique prônée par les romancières. L’exploitation littéraire de ce motif dans les divers thèmes abordés par les œuvres s’inscrit plus largement dans la production artistique contemporaine ; la peinture en fournit de nombreux et illustres exemples qui font écho aux textes, riches de vignettes dont l’écriture autorise le rapprochement avec l’art pictural. |

| Summary, etc. | In the xviiith century, women took advantage of the lack of interest and a sort of spite on the part men for the novel as a genre, to invest that territory of literature ; they rapidly seized all the advantages that one could draw from a form whose flexibility could allow them to express their ideas on matters that were dear to their hearts, and to give moral lectures to their readers in a pleasant manner. In the novelistic production of the women writers during the Age of Enlightenment, the existence of a bestiary appears quite noticeably. A bestiary which is both a narrative tool, and a novelistic motif which gives us information about the customs and aesthetics of a period, and about the ethic rules advocated by the women writers. The exploitation of this motif in the different themes tackled in the novels is part of a larger contemporary artistic production. There are numerous and well-known examples in painting, which echo the texts, full of vignettes written in such a way that one is necessarily reminded of pictorial art. |
