| Summary, etc. | RésuméDans La Lutte pour le Pacifique, écrit en 1906 au sujet de la guerre russo-japonaise de 1904-1905, René Pinon analyse comment le péril jaune – inventé en 1895 par Guillaume II – est ressenti dans les différents pays européens. Il explique que, si c’est sous la forme d’une menace militaire que cette crainte hante les esprits, il n’y croit pas personnellement, redoutant une menace économique à plus long terme. La caricature de cette époque a surtout retenu la vision d’un danger militaire, et ce n’est qu’une dizaine d’années plus tard que la perception du péril jaune sous sa forme économique est enfin évoquée. |

| Summary, etc. | In La Lutte pour le Pacifique ( The War for the Pacific), written in 1906, about the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905, René Pinon studies how the notion of the yellow peril – invented in 1895 by Wilhelm IInd – was received throughout the rest of Europe. He explains that he doesn’t personally subscribe to the fear of a military threat, but rather to an economical one in the long run. During that period, caricature has mostly retained the vision of a military danger, and the yellow peril under an economical angle is finally mentioned only ten years later. |
