Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | Getting involved in Music: Songs and Collective Mobilization during the French RevolutionOver 3.000 songs were composed from 1789 to 1799. They are part of a sound landscape which gives meaning and efficiency to collective mobilizations. The significant cases of singing from Paris and northeastern France which are analyzed in the present article underline how public interpretations of songs contribute to the shaping of collective perceptions and foster identifications with a “party” or a cause. At last, the staging and the performance reveal the citizens’ ability to commit based on musical practices which have been rooted in their traditional everyday life, in order to assert their rights. |
