| Summary, etc. | De la Révolution française à la Seconde Guerre mondiale, plusieurs essais de redécoupage du temps social voient le jour ou sont simplement esquissés, en France mais aussi en Union soviétique ou même dans les anciens empires musulmans en voie de modernisation. Cet article retrace l’histoire de ces tentatives, en expose les motivations mais aussi les résistances que rencontrent ces politiques qui bouleversent l’organisation sociale en essayant de se soustraire au référentiel religieux. Il constate l’échec final de la plupart de ces expériences, qui demeurent limitées dans le temps (une douzaine d’années en France comme en URSS) et peinent à passer de la sphère politique aux réalités de la vie populaire. |

| Summary, etc. | From the French Revolution to the Second World War, several attempts to redistribute social time see the light of day or are simply sketched out, in France but also in the Soviet Union or even in the old Muslim empires in the process of modernization. This article traces the history of these attempts, explains their motivations but also the resistance encountered by these policies which upset social organization by trying to escape the religious frame of reference. It noted the ultimate failure of most of these experiments, which remained limited in time (a dozen years in France as in the USSR) and struggled to move from the political sphere to the realities of popular life. |
