| Summary, etc. | Quand a été publiée en France la première bande dessinée à bulles ? Comment l’usage de la bulle s’est-il imposé auprès du public, des auteurs et des éditeurs ? Si des réponses factuelles à ces questions ont déjà été élaborées, permettant d’identifier la première moitié du xxe siècle comme la période charnière, les implications historiques du phénomène restent encore à analyser. Nous proposons dans cet article une analyse statistique des bandes dessinées à bulles parues en France entre 1904 et 1940. À l’aide d’une base de données systématique, il est possible de préciser la périodisation du phénomène. Notre interprétation envisage ainsi la généralisation de la bulle face au texte sous l’image sur le temps long de plusieurs décennies, en croisant des critères culturel, géopolitique et économique. Il pose des bases pour poursuivre l’étude d’une des mutations les plus marquantes de la culture visuelle française de la première moitié du xxe siècle : l’irruption de la parole dans l’image dessinée. |

| Summary, etc. | When was published the first bande dessinée using speech balloons in France? How has the use of the balloon prevailed among the audience, the artists and the publishers? While factual answers to these questions have already been given, making it possible to identify the first half of the twentieth century as the turning point, the historical implications of the phenomenon have yet to be analyzed. In this article, we provide a statistical analysis of the balloons-using bande dessinée published in France between 1904 and 1940. Using a systematic database, it is possible to specify a much more correct periodization. Our interpretation thus considers the generalization of the ballon over several decades, against the dominant use of an accompanying text above, by correlating cultural, geopolitical and economic criteria, and lays the foundation for the study of one of the most striking changes of French visual culture in the first half of the twentieth century: the irruption of speech inside drawings. |
