De l’apparence aux manières d’être, comment les anciens Grecs l’ont-ils pensée et représentée dans les pratiques et les discours, au regard des normes politiques, sociales et religieuses, autrement dit culturelles ? Cet article explore les marqueurs de la beauté d’un corps, ses manifestations et ses effets dans l’Athènes classique. Il montre également à quel point la beauté corporelle, si elle fait consensus dans son expression, reste un sujet de polémiques relatives aussi bien à sa définition qu’aux pratiques qui transforment les corps. |

| Summary, etc. | Bodily beauty is an aesthetic and plastic motive lauded and valued during Antiquity. From appearance to manners of being, how did the ancient Greeks think about and represent it in practices and discourses, with regard to political, social and religious norms? This paper explores the markers of bodily beauty, its manifestations and effects in classical Athens. It also shows that body beauty, if it has a consensus in its expression, remains a subject of polemics concerning both its definition and the practices that transform bodies. |
