| Summary, etc. | En 1898-1899, l’affaire Dreyfus bat son plein, et les dreyfusards se mobilisent en meetings et dans la presse pour défendre le capitaine condamné. Au même moment, l’éducation populaire connaît un grand succès en intégrant des projections à la lumière oxhydrique dans ses enseignements. C’est notamment le cas dans le milieu des universités populaires. Les dreyfusards vont reprendre à leur compte ce « pré-cinéma », et introduire la projection de supports visuels dans leurs conférences afin d’illustrer le propos des orateurs. Parmi les supports projetés, on trouve des photographies de Dreyfus, Esterhazy, Zola, Picquart, et des autres grands protagonistes de l’affaire. Des images en lien avec Dreyfus sont donc politiquement récupérées, projetées, et réinterprétées au service d’une cause militante. Les mouvances de gauche et les ligues républicaines sont aux manettes de ces « conférences documentaires » qui vont de l’été 1898 au procès en révision de Dreyfus. Elles se tiennent principalement en région parisienne et s’exportent mal en dehors des villes, contrairement aux grands meetings de la Ligue des droits de l’homme qui partant des métropoles réussissent à s’implanter dans les campagnes. |

| Summary, etc. | In 1898-1899, the Dreyfus Affair was at its peak, and the dreyfusards mobilized in meetings and in the press to defend the condemned captain. At the same time, popular education enjoyed great success in integrating oxyhydric light projections into its teachings. This is particularly the case in popular universities. The dreyfusards will appropriate these methods, and introduce the projection of visual aids in their conferences in order to illustrate the speech of the speakers. Among the projected supports, there are photographs of Dreyfus, Esterhazy, Zola, Picquart, and the other great protagonists of the “Affair”. Pictures of Dreyfus are politically recovered, projected, and reinterpreted in the service of a militant cause. The Left parties and republican leagues led these "documentary conferences" which took place from the summer of 1898 to the Dreyfus second trial. They are organized mainly in the Paris region and do not export well outside the cities, contrary to the big meetings of the League of Human rights which take place in city and in the countryside. |
