| Summary, etc. | Avec la guerre hispano-américaine (1898) les États-Unis passèrent du statut de puissance régionale à celui de puissance mondiale. Leur armée se retrouva au premier plan dans cette nouvelle politique étrangère. Elle joua les rôles de pacificateur et de colonisateur aux Philippines, ce qui fut une nouveauté et une épreuve. Cet événement, qui marquait la fondation d'un empire colonial américain, a bénéficié d'une attention accrue de la part des puissances étrangères exprimée, par exemple, par les attachés militaires. |

| Summary, etc. | With the Spanish-American War (1898) the United States moved from regional to global power. The US army found itself at the forefront of this new American foreign policy. It had to assume the roles of peacemaker and colonizer of the Philippines, which was new and a test.
