| Summary, etc. | Dans cet article qui traite d’une émeute urbaine à Montbéliard le 12 juillet 2000, les auteurs tentent de montrer, à partir d’une enquête de terrain menée de longue date dans la région ouvrière de Sochaux, l’intérêt et la nécessité d’étudier avec une profondeur historique le phénomène social des « émeutes urbaines ». Au-delà des aspects locaux et des transformations morphologiques des quartiers HLM, qui sont des facteurs essentiels pour comprendre la généralisation des émeutes urbaines dans les années 1990, ils invitent, dans cette étude de cas, à effectuer un détour par l’étude conjointe des transformations des rapports de travail dans les entreprises et des rapports entre générations, du mode de constitution de la personnalité sociale des enfants d’immigrés et de l’« agressivité » de la fraction la plus démunie de ce groupe social hétérogène. |

| Summary, etc. | Genesis of an Urban Riot in Montbeliard, France This paper deals with an urban riot at Montbeliard on the 12th of July, 2000. The authors attempt to demonstrate, based on long-term fieldwork in the industrial area of Sochaux, the scientific interest and the importance of studying the phenomenon of urban riots in a historical context. This case study invites us to move beyond local factors and the broader morphological transformations of the French « banlieue » housing projects as approaches to understanding the generalization of urban riots in the 1990s, by making a detour through the study of (1) the transformation of work relations in the factory, and (2) the relations between generations, the processes of constitution of social personality among the children of immigrants, the kind of aggressivity of the most deprived part of this heterogeneous social group. |
