| Summary, etc. | Introduction : L’environnement dans lequel se déroule l’examen gynécologique influence le ressenti des patientes et questionne les notions de « distance intime » et d’« espace personnel ». But de l’étude : Notre étude propose d’explorer le ressenti et les préférences des femmes envers l’agencement du cabinet médical. Résultats : Il s’agit d’une enquête d’opinion, exploratoire, non randomisée. Les questionnaires étaient donnés aux femmes par 14 médecins généralistes en 2017 dans la région lilloise. Parmi les 173 patientes ayant répondu, 73 % accordaient de l’importance à l’agencement du cabinet durant la consultation gynécologique. Les besoins d’un environnement réconfortant, du respect de l’intimité qui passait par l’isolement spatial de la partie « examen », ont été les plus exprimés. La majorité des participantes jugeaient nécessaires : la séparation entre les espaces dédiés à l’entretien et à l’examen (77 %), l’accès à des fournitures d’hygiène intime (80 %), l’espace pour déposer les vêtements/sous-vêtements (74 %), l’espace de déshabillage (56 %). Cinquante-cinq pour cent des participantes n’éprouvaient pas le besoin de se couvrir le bas du corps durant l’examen. Le confort de la table d’examen était jugé satisfaisant (93 %), les couleurs « calmes et apaisantes » étaient appréciées. Selon les patientes, l’amélioration du confort de la table passait d’abord par un changement sur les étriers. Conclusions : L’environnement de l’examen gynécologique est caractérisé par un équilibre entre son caractère familier réconfortant et son organisation spatialement délimitée respectant l’intimité de la femme. L’analyse des résultats révèle les dimensions culturelle et subjective de l’intimité. Elle demande une approche psychosociale centrée sur la patiente. |

| Summary, etc. | Introduction: Social science concepts (intimate distance, personal space) suggest that the gynecological examination environment (GEE) might influence women’s feelings during the exam. Purpose of research: We explore this hypothesis by assessing women’s preferences for the GEE. Results: An opinion poll was conducted, without randomization to explore women’s point of view. In 2017, questionnaires were referred to women by 14 general practitioners in the Lille region. Among 173 answers, 73% granted importance to the medical setting, especially to a comfortable ambiance and an isolated place during an exam (to respect women’s privacy). Women expected at least: a separation of consultation/examination (77%), disposal of sanitary towels (80%), a place to leave clothes and underwear (74%), a changing area (56%). Fifty-five percent judged it unnecessary to cover the lower body. Concerning the examination table: comfort was satisfactory (93%), “calm and peaceful colors” were appreciated, but clamps should be improved. Conclusions: The GEE is characterized by a balance of natural comfort and a sequentially delimited spatial configuration. The study revealed cultural and subjective dimensions of privacy. Physicians need to apply psychosocial competences to perform a person-centered gynecological exam. |
