| Summary, etc. | RésuméLes liens maintenus avec le pays d’origine des parents, reconfigurés au fil du temps, incitent des descendants de l’immigration algérienne en France à développer un projet économique en Algérie. Ce dernier se distingue à la fois des pratiques transnationales des immigrés et de l’activité de l’entrepreneuriat algérien. Cet article retrace le cheminement de cet investissement économique en mobilisant une approche biographique qui combine une sociologie des parcours et une sociologie économique. Car, cet investissement n’est pas qu’un fait économique. La position occupée par ces descendants, tant au regard de l’histoire migratoire que du parcours accompli dans la société d’installation, permet de comprendre comment se prend la décision d’investir, les engageant à un niveau économique et personnel. L’enquête, réalisée dans les deux pays, analyse autant les ressources mobilisées par les acteurs en présence, la formation de leurs réseaux, que leurs motivations à entreprendre. De part et d’autre de la Méditerranée, il s’agit d’analyser les conditions initiales permettant de comprendre cette action. Deux types d’investisseurs se distinguent qui, toutefois, partagent une même volonté de réussite et le sentiment d’être freinés dans ce projet. Face à cette perspective, l’Algérie constitue un nouvel horizon : bien plus qu’un investissement économique, ce dernier renseigne sur la place de ces individus dans la société française, dans laquelle ils ont grandi, et en Algérie, le pays d’origine. Une fois les obstacles dépassés, une partie de ces investisseurs parviennent à devenir en Algérie des acteurs de l’économie mondialisée. Cette pratique internationale, outre des gains financiers élevés, contribuerait à procurer une plus grande reconnaissance, la mondialisation offrant la possibilité de tirer partie d’une recomposition des hiérarchies sociales. |

| Summary, etc. | The links preserved with their parents’ native country, transformed as time goes by, encourage some of the descendents of Algerian immigration in France to develop new business projects in Algeria. These projects differ both from the transnational practices of immigrants and from the activity of Algerian entrepreneurs. This paper relates the progress of their economic investment by using a biographical approach, for such an investment is not only economic. The position occupied by these descendents, with regard to the history of migrations as well as of their life-course in the society where they came to settle, allows us to understand how they arrived at their decision to invest, which represents a personal as well as a financial commitment. Conducted in both countries, the survey analyzes the resources mobilized by the actors, the networks they formed, and their motivations. On both sides of the Mediterranean, the purpose of the study is to analyze the conditions that prevailed at the time they made their decision. Two different profiles of investors appeared which nevertheless showed the same determination to succeed and the same feeling of being slowed down in their undertakings. Faced with this prospect, Algeria represents a new horizon. More than a purely economic investment, their start-ups point out the place of these individuals both in French society (where they were raised), and in Algeria (their parents’ country of origin). But, though the experiment also implies overcoming numerous obstacles, a number of these investors succeed in Algeria in becoming unavoidable actors of a globalized economy. Their international activity, aside from financial profits, procures them greater respect, since globalization offers the possibility of making the best of reshuffled social hierarchies. |
