| Summary, etc. | Cet état des lieux de la recherche sur l’ islamophobie part du constat d’une multiplication des publications en anglais ces dernières années, par rapport à un intérêt moindre de la part d’études universitaires en langue française sur le sujet. Dans un premier temps, il s’agit donc de faire un bilan critique de la littérature anglophone et francophone sur l’islamophobie, puis de synthétiser les termes du débat terminologique autour de la définition de l’ islamophobie. Dans un deuxième temps, à partir des différentes définitions proposées, ce texte propose des pistes de réflexions sur les enjeux que révèle le choix d’opter pour ce mot plutôt qu’un autre. L’engouement, le silence ou les hésitations à utiliser le terme d’ islamophobie dans la recherche en sciences sociales fait écho aux débats qui agitent la scène publique, saisie par d’autres producteurs de discours que sont les responsables politiques, les journalistes ou les militants. L’objectif de cet article est de faire entendre en France les échos d’un débat qui se développe dans la recherche anglophone, afin d’ouvrir la voie à de nouveaux champs d’investigation. |

| Summary, etc. | Islamophobia: the making of a new concept. The current state of academic researchThis review of research on Islamophobia starts from the observation of an increase in the number of publications on this subject in English in recent years, compared to a low interest in French university studies. As a first step, it aims to make a critical assessment of the Anglophone and Francophone literature on Islamophobia and to synthesize the terms of the terminological debate around the definition of Islamophobia. In a second step, from the various proposed definitions, the text suggests ways of thinking about the issues revealed by the choice of opting for this word rather than another. The craze, silence or reluctance about using the term Islamophobia in the social sciences echoes the debates that agitate the general public, captured by other discourse producers such as political leaders, journalists or activists. The objective of this article is to echo in France the debate that has developed in Anglophone research in order to open the way to new fields of investigation. |
