| Summary, etc. | The paradigm of the fight against food waste has imposed itself in the field of food aid with a backdrop of environmental issues. This article is based on an ethnographic survey in a social grocery store located in a working-class neighbourhood. It will focus on the receptions of the ecological norms of its members. In this association, the social workers take over “green” consumption standards and aspire to change the supply of the store, which is based in part on waste from mass distribution. In affinity with the employees and permeable to the greening of their way of life, the volunteer-beneficiaries from the cultural fraction of the precarious working classes also mark their opposition to the recovery of unsold food from the food industry. The mothers of the neighbourhood, volunteer-beneficiaries of this social grocery store distance themselves from the ecological norms of consumption disseminated by the employees and promote the fight against food waste: they make “a virtue of necessity”. |

| Summary, etc. | Le paradigme de la lutte contre le gaspillage alimentaire s’est imposé dans le domaine de l’aide alimentaire sur fond d’enjeux environnementaux. À partir d’une enquête ethnographique dans une épicerie sociale implantée dans un quartier populaire, cet article montre les rapports socialement différenciés aux normes écologiques de ses membres. Dans l’association étudiée, les travailleuses sociales se font les relais des normes de consommation « verdies » et aspirent à changer l’approvisionnement du magasin qui repose en partie sur le rebut de la grande distribution. En affinité avec ces salariées et perméables à l’écologisation de leur mode de vie, les bénévoles-bénéficiaires issu·es du pôle culturel des classes populaires précarisées marquent également leur opposition à la récupération d’invendus issus de l’agroalimentaire. En revanche, les mères du quartier, bénévoles-bénéficiaires de cette épicerie sociale mettent à distance les normes écologiques de consommation diffusées par les salariées et valorisent la lutte contre le gaspillage alimentaire : elles font « de nécessité vertu ». |
