| Summary, etc. | Cet article propose une analyse sociologique d’une forme de foule particulière, la foule festive déambulatoire, à partir du cas des Fêtes de Bayonne. L’article commence par expliciter la différence entre cette foule, la foule protestataire et celle du public assis du festival. Le désordre programmé associé à la foule festive déambulatoire suppose des processus spécifiques d’encadrement de la foule. L’article porte sur deux problèmes liés à cet encadrement. Le premier a trait à la construction de la relation entre la foule et la ville, opérée par une économie de la foule festive, par laquelle la foule est produite, distribuée, consommée puis expulsée. Le second problème porte sur les enjeux de sécurité spécifiques de l’événement, en mettant en avant la différence entre la sécurité exotérique sur laquelle la mairie communique, et la sécurité ésotérique qui reste pour l’essentiel l’affaire des organisateurs et des pouvoirs publics. Nous montrons ainsi que la résolution de la tension entre foule festive et sécurité passe par un cadrage moins serré que pour d’autres types de foule, d’une part, et donnant une place importante aux groupes de fêtards, d’autre part. |

| Summary, etc. | This article proposes a sociological analysis of a particular form of crowd, the wandering festive crowd, by analyzing the Fêtes de Bayonne . The article begins by explaining the difference between this crowd, the protest crowd, and the seated festival crowd. The programmed disorder associated with the wandering festive crowd implies specific processes of crowd management. The first has to do with how the relationship between the crowd and the city is constructed and how it is inextricably linked to an economy of the festive crowd, by which the crowd is produced, distributed, consumed and then expelled. The second problem concerns the specific security issues of the event, highlighting the difference between the exoteric security which concerns city hall, and the esoteric security which remains essentially the business of the organizers and the public authorities. We show that the tension between festive crowds and security can be resolved through a looser framework than for most other types of crowds, thus giving an important role to festival goers. |
