520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Objective: This study aimed to explore the use of cultural competencies (CCs) to address biases in intercultural therapeutic relationships. It also aimed to describe different CC models and standards adopted in the Middle East. Methods: A methodological scoping review was carried out. Potential studies were identified based on inclusion criteria defined in the PCC protocol (population, concept, and context). A PRISMA diagram was then drawn up. The publication dates of the studies included in the review range from 2001 to 2022. The total number of extracted articles is 15. A list of themes has been established. Results: In intercultural contexts, training of healthcare professionals (HCPs) on CCs helps reduce disparities in health care. To this end, it provides them with the tools and knowledge they need in order to treat all patients equally, regardless of their cultural background. However, several individual and organizational factors affect the implementation of CCs, in addition to stereotypical/conventional teaching strategies adopted during the training. Few studies, if any at all, have been carried out in the Middle East. Conclusion: It is the responsibility of healthcare providers and the organizations involved to acquire the CCs in order to promote an environment of understanding and respect conducive to the provision of care. Further research and studies would open new horizons and encourage the development of new guidelines for the acquisition of CCs in countries in the Middle East. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
