Son analyse d’art comme système social renouvelle puissamment la manière de conceptualiser le changement historique dans l’art, l’autonomie artistique et la position spécifique de l’art dans la modernité. En particulier, contrairement à l’idée selon laquelle l’art aurait renoncé à toute prétention à l’autonomie à l’ère post-moderne, Luhmann affirme que la postmodernité représente l’ère de l’hyperautonomisation de l’art. |

Observations on the Sociology of Niklas LuhmannThis article examines the work of Niklas Luhmann, and in particular, his employment of systems theory to the sociology of art. His analysis of art as a social system offers powerful new ways of conceptualising artistic change through time, artistic autonomy, and the specific position of art in modernity. In particular, in contrast to the general assumption that in the postmodem era art has finally lost any claim to autonomy it once might have had, Luhmann argues one can claim that postmodernity represents a hyperautonomisation of art. |

Observaciones respecto a la sociología de Niklas LuhmannEste artículo examina el trabajo de Niklas Luhmann bajo el punto de vista de su teoría de los sistemas. Su análisis del arte como sistema social renueva poderosamente la forma de conceptuar el cambio histórico en el arte, la autonomía artística, así como la posición específica del arte en la modernidad.
