Summary, etc. Des expositions photographiques sont organisées aujourd’hui en extérieur, pour drainer ceux qui ne fréquentent pas les musées et galeries. J’en étudie les « non-publics » (Ancel & Pessin, 2004) : les absents, ceux à qui elles sont destinées mais qui ne les fréquentent pas. Quels sont les facteurs qui bloquent la rencontre avec les œuvres malgré leur mode d’exposition urbain ? L’article s’attache à étudier les représentations de la culture que se forgent les enquêtés (migrants issus des classes populaires) au cours de sorties organisées par un centre social. A l’aide d’une étude de cas (une visite au musée du Quai Branly), il montre comment certaines rencontres du non-public avec la culture savante, loin d’abolir la distance symbolique, contribuent au contraire à l’ancrer ou à la creuser.

I studied the "non-public" (Ancel & Pessin, 2004) : the absents, those to whom they are intended, but that do not attend. What are the factors hindering the encounter with the works despite their urban exposure mode ? The article seeks to explore representations of culture that are forged by the respondents (migrants from popular classes) during outings organized by a social center. Using a case study (a visit to the Musée du Quai Branly), it shows how certain non-public meetings with high culture, far from abolishing the symbolic distance, on the contrary contribute to anchor or to dig it.

Summary, etc. Algunas exposiciones fotográficas se organizan hoy en día al exterior para atraer a aquellos que no asisten a museos y galerías. He estudiado el "no público" (Ancel y Pessin, 2004) : los ausentes, aquellos a los que éstos están destinados, pero que no asisten. ¿Cuáles son los factores que obstaculizan el encuentro con las obras a pesar de su modo de exposición urbana ? El artículo trata de explorar las representaciones de la cultura que se forjan los encuestados (migrantes de clases populares) durante las salidas organizadas por un centro social. Utilizando un estudio de caso (una visita al Musée du Quai Branly), se muestra cómo ciertas reuniones no públicas con la alta cultura, lejos de abolir la distancia simbólica, por el contrario contribuyen a anclarla o a cavarla.
