Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | Magnetic stimulation to investigate neuromuscular fatigueThe use of magnetic field to stimulate neural tissues has open new perspectives for neuromuscular investigations. Applying a transient intense magnetic field near neural structures can induce an electric current that will subsequently depolarize the membrane of targeted nervous cells. The use of adapted stimulators and coils allows non-invasive stimulation of motor pathways both at peripheral and central levels. Magnetic stimulation of peripheral motor nerves as well as of the motor cortex allows the measurement of evoked mechanical and electromyographic responses. These responses can be compared before and after a fatiguing task in order to assess the contractile, spinal and supraspinal mechanisms of fatigue. |
