Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Fatigue induced by neuromuscular electrical stimulationThe application of conventional neuromuscular electrical stimulation (frequency 50 –120 Hz; pulse width 0.2 –0.4 ms) results in a rapid and marked decline in evoked force and maximal voluntary contraction force ( i.e., muscle fatigue), which inevitably affects its effectiveness in both clinical and sport training settings. A series of electrically induced contractions mainly provoke neuromuscular transmission-propagation failure (high-frequency fatigue), while low-frequency fatigue signs could also appear in the first few days after exercise. The metabolic and neuromuscular alterations induced by electrical stimulation are largely explained by the specific motor unit recruitment pattern of evoked contractions. The extent of muscle fatigue induced by wide pulse (1 ms) electrical stimulation, which is an emerging technique, and the underlying mechanisms remain to be investigated. |
