Summary, etc. Summary, etc. | Practice in fitness centers: normalizing interactions between female membersThis article proposes to react to the arguments developed by Audrey Ernst and Charles Pigeassou (2005) in this same review. According to these authors, the centers of fitness are places of physical practice where “relations without constraints are established ”: each one concentrates on its practice and is not worried others. In the light of the present study, which rests on an analysis of the speech held by followers of these rooms at the time of understanding talks, this report deserves to be relativized: if the social interactions are generally nonverbal, they are despite everything quite real. Indeed, a certain number of practising estimates to be the object of discriminating judgements in connection with their physical appearance. Feeling disqualified and discredited, they have consequently the feeling to undergo a situation of “stigmatization ” (Goffman, Stigmate, les usages sociaux des handicaps, Éditions de Minuit 1975) and very badly live this relation with others marked by powerful implicit normalized codes. |
