Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The study of accurate perception in the practice of systema on the basis of first-person reportsHow do we know that our perceptions are accurate ? Martial arts and meditative practices demonstrate that our perceptions are distorted by our mental and emotional habits. Seven practitioners of “systema”, a Russian martial art, have been interviewed about their practice with the technique of elicitation interview. Comparative analysis of their experiences suggest that what they considered to be moments of truth or realness contained similar characteristics : present moment, enhancement of perception, non-thinking processes, use of breath and body relaxation, loving-kindness, and a sense of a freely creative bodily intelligence. “Systema” attempts to improve perception and consciousness not by accumulating techniques and information, but by eliminating unnecessary reactions of fear and by more closely approaching both unconscious and intuitive perceptive experiences. |
