Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Silence has a say in psychoanalysis as it reveals the paths taken by words and affect. In an article written in 1913, Freud shows how the psychoanalytic technique can thwart silence so as to lift censorship and secrets and overcome oblivion. For the analyst this is brought about by the method of free associations, for the analyzed person, by his or her drifting attention. Yet how is silence to be treated? Two examples – one bearing on the way the symptom is silenced and the other, on a long silence within the analysis itself – will be used to show the relation between silence and the vital questions raised by all human beings, dealing with sexuality, death, and generations succeeding each other. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
