| Summary, etc. | Cet article, à travers une approche socio-territoriale axée sur la compréhension du lien entre la mémoire et la ville en termes historiques et sociaux, vise à apporter une contribution théorique en analysant la relation entre la mémoire, les événements historiques et la sélection ou suppression mnémonique dans trois villes – Berlin, Rome et New York – qui ont dû résister et réagir à des traumatismes politiques ou sociaux au cours de différentes périodes de leur histoire. Le palimpseste qui émerge de cette analyse montre que les politiques de la mémoire, ou de son élimination, constituent une catégorie interprétative fondamentale pour la compréhension de la société contemporaine, précisément parce qu’elles réussissent à transformer l’expérience spatiale et temporelle des individus dans l’espace urbain. |

| Summary, etc. | Through a social-territorial approach axed on the understanding of the link between memory and the city in historical and social terms, this article aims to bring a theoretical contribution analysing the relation between memory, the historical events and the mnemonic selection or suppression in three cities – Berlin, Rome and New York – which had to resist and react to the political and social traumas during different periods of their history. The palimpsest that emerges from this analysis, shows that the politics of memory, or its elimination, constitute a fundamental interpretative category for the understanding of the contemporary society, precisely because they succeeded to transform the spatial and temporal experience of the individuals in the urban space. |
