| Summary, etc. | Résumé Adorno fut, dès sa première thèse d’habilitation « Das Motiv des Unbewussten in der transzendentalen Seelenlehre », rejetée par l’Université, un fervent adepte de Freud, qualifié de « désensorceleur de l’inconscient ». Il croisa le fer, surtout pendant sa période américaine, avec les partisans d’une psychanalyse qui s’adapterait aux normes de la société et témoigna, toute sa vie durant, les plus grandes réserves quant à la clinique et la perspective d’une guérison des patients. Les œuvres les plus pessimistes de Freud offraient, selon lui, les clefs pour comprendre la rupture de civilisation à laquelle on assista au xx e siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | As early as his first doctoral dissertation " Das Motiv des Unbewusstenin der transzendentalen Seelenlehre", which was rejected by University, he was a fervent admirer of Freud, whom he described as a "dewitcher or unbewitcher of the unconscious". He crossed swords, particularly during his American period, with the supporters of a form of psychoanalysis willing to adapt to the norms of society and, throughout his life, expressed the deepest reservations concerning clinical treatment and the prospect of a cure for patients. Freud’s most pessimistic works offered, in his view, a series of keys for understanding the break up of civilisation in the 20th century. |
