Cependant, le film peut se penser également comme une réflexion sur la manière dont l’individu, confronté à la brutalité de la machine bureaucratique, est susceptible de développer en retour de sévères pathologies face à l’absurdité des situations qu’elle engendre. C’est dans cette perspective que sera menée ici l’étude de la mise en scène de la folie criminelle de Juanchín – jeune homme sans histoires, qui finira par assassiner un bureaucrate, comme une libération salutaire, au terme d’une lente montée de la folie – dont nous tenterons de dégager les enjeux, par-delà la critique du système cubain. |

The Death of a Bureaucrat by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea The Death of a Bureaucrat (1966), a comedy by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, is generally approached from a politico-social point of view as a vigorous indictment of bureaucracy in revolutionary Cuba. However, the film may well be interpreted as a reflection on how the individual, when faced with the brutality of a bureaucratic system, can develop severe pathologies in front of the absurd situations the latter causes. It is from this angle that this paper means to analyse the dramatization of the killing frenzy of Juanchin, an ordinary young man who, after the slow escalation of his madness, will end up killing a bureaucrat as a solitary liberation. Ultimately this analysis should allow us to draw the issues of this madness beyond the mere criticism of the Cuban system. |
