Summary, etc. | Le concept de participation informe les lois et les politiques sociales dans de nombreux domaines. Il est présenté par certains comme un moyen de renforcer l’ empowerment des citoyens et, par d’autres, comme un moyen de légitimer les institutions publiques et de restreindre l’autonomie citoyenne. Cet article vise à éclairer ce débat dans le domaine de la santé mentale à partir du contexte québécois en s’appuyant essentiellement sur une littérature anglo-saxonne. Cette réflexion est susceptible d’éclairer autant les chercheurs que les intervenants sociaux qui souhaitent comprendre et soutenir l’ empowerment des groupes de citoyens dans le domaine de la santé mentale et au-delà. |

Summary, etc. | The concept of participation is widely spread out and informs legislation and social policies in many fields. It is presented by some people as a way to strengthen the empowerment of citizens, and by other ones, as a way to legitimize public institutions and restrict citizens’ autonomy. This article aims to throw some light on this debate in the field of mental health. This reflection is likely to enlighten researchers as well as social actors who wish to understand and support the empowerment of citizens groups in the field of mental health and beyond. |
