Summary, etc. | Les pays d’Afrique subsaharienne ont à scolariser un nombre croissant d’enfants, dans un contexte d’approfondissement de la pauvreté. Si les taux de scolarisation sont plus faibles en milieu rural, les villes connaissent également de fortes difficultés. Cet article analyse, pour Conakry, l’impact sur le taux de scolarisation dans le primaire de la dimension spatiale de l’offre scolaire, mesurée par la densité d’établissements publics et privés, et le temps de parcours. Les résultats montrent qu’après les facteurs propres à la demande, la disponibilité de l’offre publique est déterminante car l’accessibilité physique aux écoles privées, plus nombreuses, est subordonnée à leur accessibilité financière. |

Summary, etc. | Out-of-the-way From School ? Poverty, Accessibility and School Attendance in Conakry Sub-Saharan African countries have to ensure the schooling of a growing number of children, in a context of deepening poverty. Even though attendance rates are lower in rural areas, cities are facing serious problems. This paper analyses, for Conakry, the impact of location of school provision, measured by the density of public and private schools and trip duration to school, on primary school attendance. Findings confirm the major role of factors concerning the demand for education and they also emphasize that availability of public schools is determinant given that physical accessibility to private schools, which are more numerous, is hindered by monetary accessibility. |

Pobreza y acceso a la escolarización en Conakry Los países de Africa subsahariana deben escolarizar un número creciente de niños en un contexto de profundización de la pobreza. Si bien las tasas de escolarización son más bajas en las zonas rurales, en las ciudades se registran también grandes dificultades. Este artículo analiza, para Conakry, el impacto sobre las tasas de escolarización en el nivel primario de la dimensión espacial de la oferta escolar, medida por la densidad de los establecimientos públicos y privados y el tiempo del trayecto. Los resultados muestran que, más allá de los factores ligados a la demanda, la disponibilidad de una oferta pública es determinante dado que la accesibilidad física a las escuelas privadas, más numerosas, está subordinada a la accesibilidad financiera. |
