| Summary, etc. | Cet article consiste en une analyse théorique des déterminants du choix de la forme de représentation bancaire à l’étranger. Ce choix ne s’effectue pas uniquement sur la base des caractéristiques de l’environnement économique et institutionnel des pays d’origine et d’accueil de la banque. Celle-ci, restée longtemps comme une « boîte noire », a des caractéristiques qui peuvent aussi être déterminantes dans le choix de la forme de représentation à l’étranger. En effet, des facteurs comme la taille de la banque-mère, la distance qui sépare le pays d’origine du pays d’accueil, la nature de l’activité à exercer à l’étranger et l’expérience en matière d’acquisition et/ou d’internationalisation peuvent également influencer ce choix. |

This choice is not carried out solely on the basis of characteristic of the economic and institutional environment of home and host countries. The bank, remained a long time like a « black box », has characteristics which can determinie the choice of the form of representation also. Indeed, factors as the size of the parent bank, the distance that separates the home country from the host country ; the nature of the activity to be exerted abroad and the international experience can also influence this choice. |

| Summary, etc. | Los determinantes de la elección de la forma de implantación bancaria en el extranjero : un análisis teórico Este artículo consiste en un análisis teórico de los determinantes de la elección de la sucursal y de la filial como formas de implantación bancaria en el extranjero. Esta elección no se efectúa solamente sobre la base de las características del entorno económico e institucional de los países de origen y recepción del banco-matriz. Este, permanecido mucho tiempo como una « caja negra », tiene características que pueden también ser determinantes en la elección de la forma de representación en el extranjero. En efecto, otros factores como el tamaño del banco-matriz, la distancia que separa el país de origen del país de recepción, la naturaleza de la actividad que debe ejercerse en el extranjero y la experiencia en cuanto a adquisición y/o de internacionalización pueden también influir sobre esta elección. |
