Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Since the 1990s, it is in course in Brazilian society a process of demographic and ages change, with the emergence of elderly people on the whole population. This phenomenon was accompanied by several political initiatives that promoted a wide normativity consolidated in the Brazilian Statute of the Elderly (Estatuto do Idoso). Hence, this process has been promoting broad social changes that consider the severe social inequality and the present fragile system of social protection, particularly as regards the Social Security. As a result, the material living conditions, the well-being and the longevity of most people are being compromised. Mainly due to the most recent governmental actions aiming at social protection system reduction through the access restriction to important mechanisms of support for the elderly people, such as Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC), the Bolsa Família program and the proposal for a Brazilian Social Welfare Reform. These policies and practices have resulted in an increase in the working time for the granting of retirement, putting at risk the social rights conquered by this generation. |
