Summary, etc. | L’article porte sur la pluralité des expériences familiales et éducatives d’enfants des classes supérieures scolarisés en CM2 dans une école catholique parisienne. Leur discours a été recueilli par des entretiens (n = 26) et un questionnaire (n = 52) distribué à l’issue d’une ethnographie d’un an dans l’école. Selon le cadre familial dans lequel ils grandissent, les enfants entretiennent des rapports différenciés à leurs parents, frères et sœurs et camarades d’école. Dans les familles « traditionnelles », les relations parents/enfants sont fondées sur une autorité naturelle de l’adulte et les enfants passent un temps considérable avec leur fratrie et leurs amis d’école. Par contraste, les enfants de « managers » ont davantage de pouvoir, dans le rapport aux adultes, pour affirmer leur individualité, tandis qu’ils développent une grande autonomie avec leurs pairs. Enfin, les enfants d’« intellectuels » tissent avec leurs parents des relations fondées sur le dialogue et un idéal égalitaire ; ils sont davantage distants de leurs pairs. De ces configurations familiales résultent des identités et des dispositions enfantines différenciées. |

Summary, etc. | This article focuses on the plurality of family and educational experiences of upper-class fifth graders attending a Parisian Catholic school. The children’s discourse was collected through interviews (n = 26) and a questionnaire (n = 52) distributed after a one-year ethnographic fieldwork in the school. Depending on the family setting in which they grow up, children have different relationships with their parents, siblings and schoolmates. In “traditional” families, parent/child relationships are based on natural adult authority and children spend considerable time with their siblings and schoolmates. By contrast, children of “managers” have more power in their relationship with adults to assert their individuality while developing a great deal of autonomy with peers. Lastly, children of “intellectuals” build relationships based on dialogue and an egalitarian ideal with their parents, and are more distant from their peers. These family configurations result in differentiated child identities and dispositions. |
