Le bain ramène aux enveloppes physiques et psychiques, à l’amour primaire, au concept d’amae. Il convoque les fantasmes originaires. La mythologie et les pratiques shinto ou bouddhistes, les contes populaires associent le bain à l’identité japonaise. Malgré leurs vertus, les eaux sont parfois peuplées de représentations archaïques terrifiantes. |

| Summary, etc. | The practises of bathing in Japan illustrate some specific aspects of the relation to the mother and to the group. They are a daily ritual of transition and purification, a time for the individual identity to merge into positive feelings of belonging to the family group as well as to the Japanese society. Bathing brings back to physical and psychic envelopes, to primary love, to the concept of amae. Bathing is a regression to a matricial state of indistinction, an invitation to primal phantasies. The Shinto and Buddhist mythology, the practises, the folk tales link bathing to Japanese identity. Here, terrifying archaic representations sometimes appear. |
