Summary, etc. | Le début du xxe siècle a été marqué par des débats vifs entre économistes institutionnalistes du travail et promoteurs du management scientifique naissant sur la manière d’atténuer ce que plusieurs auteurs appelaient à l’époque les labor problems. L’objectif de cet article est de questionner le sens de ces débats et de s’interroger sur les sources de divergences des auteurs représentatifs des deux courants, en nous centrant sur la question en essor à l’époque de la démocratie dans l’entreprise. Nous montrerons que deux conceptions de la démocratie dans l’entreprise s’opposent, prenant leur sources dans des positionnements épistémologiques différents quant à la manière de saisir le travail. |

Summary, etc. | The turn of the 20th century has been characterized by vigorous debates between institutional labor economists and the proponents of scientific management concerning what was called labor problems. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the meaning of these debates and question the basis for the disagreement between the main authors of these two schools of thought, by focusing on the topic of democracy in companies, a central topic at that period. We show that two opposing views of work democracy can be identified. These views originate from different epistemological positions concerning the nature of work. Codes JEL : B15, J53, M54. |
