Dans sa perspective, établie dans une discussion d’Aristote, la vulnérabilité, loin d’être un fait dont les contours et l’importance sont déterminés, est l’objet d’un questionnement et d’un jugement pratiques : quelle place la fortune peut-elle avoir dans une vie humaine digne de ce nom ? Y a-t‑il vraiment un modèle de vie humaine sur lequel se régler pour répondre à cette question ? Après avoir envisagé un certain nombre de possibilités, on s’écarte de la position morale et politique de Nussbaum, qui voit dans la vulnérabilité le résultat d’attitudes humaines condamnables, pour défendre l’idée d’une vulnérabilité inscrite dans la structure-même de la vie humaine. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper addresses the specific way in which Martha Nussbaum raises the issue of how to deal with the vulnerability or the fragility of goodness. It shows that, from her perspective, rooted in a discussion of Aristotle, vulnerability, far from being a fact the contours and importance of which are precisely determined, is a matter of practical judgment: what place may fortune have in a decent human life? Is there really a model of human life available to answer this question? After considering several possibilities, the article distances itself from the moral and political position of Nussbaum, who sees vulnerability as the result of condemnable human attitudes. It defends instead the idea of vulnerability as embedded in the very structure of human life. |
