| Summary, etc. | Dans l’étude des relations entre la philosophie et la sociologie naissante en France, un chapitre demeure inexploré : l’interprétation des sciences sociales par Léon Brunschvicg. S’il apprécie la valeur de la recherche ethnologique de Lévy-Bruhl, sa critique de Durkheim est sévère. Il identifie deux problèmes dans le projet durkheimien, étroitement liés : avoir cherché l’origine de la connaissance dans des formes « primitives » de savoir ; avoir soumis l’autonomie du jugement au primat du social. L’idéalisme critique de Brunschvicg cherche alors à opposer aux représentations collectives de Durkheim un autre modèle d’esprit collectif, incarné dans les avancées de la science et dans le progrès de la philosophie scientifique. |

| Summary, etc. | The relationship between philosophy and nascent sociology in France has been the subject of many studies. However, one chapter of this phenomenon remains unexplored: Léon Brunschvicg’s interpretation of the social sciences. Whilst valuing of Lévy-Bruhl’s ethnological research, he is severely critical of Durkheim. Brunschvicg identifies two problems in the Durkheimian project, which are closely linked: the search for the origin of knowledge in “primitive” forms of knowledge; and the subordination of the autonomy of judgment to the primacy of the social. Brunschvicg’s critical idealism then seeks to oppose Durkheim’s collective representations with another model of the collective mind, revealed by the advances of science and the progress of scientific philosophy. |
