| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’imagerie mentale suscite un intérêt croissant au sein des études en neuropsychologie. Toutefois, la nature de ces images reste encore mal connue. L’observation de sujets porteurs de troubles visuels d’origine périphérique peut nous permettre d’approfondir nos connaissances dans ce domaine. Le but de cette étude était de déterminer si les troubles perceptifs de ces sujets affectaient leurs capacités d’imagerie mentale, du matériel orthographique, des couleurs, des visages et des relations spatiales. De plus, les effets de la modalité haptique lorsqu’elle peut participer à la résolution de tâches d’imagerie mentale visuelle ont été évalués. Les résultats révèlent que les capacités d’imagerie mentale du matériel orthographique, des couleurs et des visages sont affectées par le déficit visuel d’origine périphérique, mais qu’une stratégie fondée sur l’écriture permet aux sujets d’améliorer leurs performances au cours des tâches d’imagerie du matériel orthographique. |

| Summary, etc. | Visual impairment and mental visual imagery for orthographic material, colours, faces and spatial relationshipsIn the past half-century, mental imagery has captured a growing interest among researchers in neuropsychology and cognitive psychology. Nevertheless, the nature of mental images is still unknown. The observation of patients with visual impairments is a valuable pathological model for studying the relationship between imagery, perception, and other cognitive capacities. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether participants’ perceptual deficits affect their mental imagery capacities of orthographic material, colour, face and spatial relationships and to analyze the effects of the haptic modality when it is part of visual mental image solving tasks. Results show that mental imagery capacity for orthographic material, face, and colour are affected by a visual deficit. However, a writing-based, haptic compensation allows visually impaired patients to improve their performance during orthographic mental imagery tasks. |
