| Summary, etc. | Cet article présente la (trans-)discipline « neuropsycholinguistique » dont le terme semble apparaître pour la première fois en sous-titre de l’ouvrage de Tissot et al. (1973) sur l’aphasie agrammatique. Au moyen d’un schéma en trois cercles, Jean-Luc Nespoulous, linguiste et aphasiologue, membre senior de l’Institut universitaire de France de la chaire de « neuropsycholinguistique cognitive », défend que l’étude des relations cerveau-langage implique de reconnaître une étape intermédiaire, théorique et abstraite, qui modélise l’architecture dite fonctionnelle du langage, et que la linguistique joue un rôle central dans l’entreprise neuropsycholinguistique. Le nom même de « neuropsycholinguistique » incarne les trois aspects fondamentaux du processus linguistique (cérébral-cognitif-grammatical) ainsi que l’interdisciplinarité requise pour mener à bien des recherches sur le système cognitif linguistique humain, de son substrat cérébral à ses manifestations variées observées à travers les langues du monde. Cet article trace un bilan de son évolution et de ses enjeux actuels après 40 ans de développement. |

| Summary, etc. | Neuropsycholinguistics 40 years after the appearance of the termThis paper presents the (cross-)disciplinary domain of “neuropsycholinguistics”. This term seems to have first appeared as a subheading in Tissot’s et al. (1973) book on agrammatic aphasia. Using a schema in three circles, Jean-Luc Nespoulous, linguist and aphasiologist, senior member of the Chair of Cognitive Neuropsycholinguistics of the French University Institute, argues that the study of brain and language relationships involves recognizing an intermediary, theoretical and abstract step that models the functional architecture of language, and that linguistics play a central role in the neuropsycholinguistics endeavour. The name itself, “neuropsycholinguistics”, embodies the three fundamental aspects of linguistic processing (neural-cognitive-grammatical), and the interdisciplinary perspective required in the study of the human faculty of language, from its neural substrate to its various manifestations observed throughout languages. This paper outlines the evolution of this school of thought over the past 40 years of development and current challenges. |
