| Summary, etc. | Objectif : Le but de cette recherche était d’explorer si, d’une part, un accouchement vécu de manière négative pourrait avoir un impact sur les relations précoces mère – bébé et, d’autre part, si le sentiment de contrôle perçu par la femme lors du travail serait corrélé à la qualité de ces relations. Méthodologie : Deux cent deux mères, ayant accouché depuis moins de quatre mois, âgées de 18 à 39 ans, ont répondu à un questionnaire sociodémographique, à des questions sur l’accouchement et à trois échelles : la Labor Agentry Scale, le Postpartum Bonding Instrument et La Mother Infant Bonding Scale. Résultats : Les mères ayant un vécu négatif de leur accouchement ont une moins bonne qualité des relations précoces mère – bébé et un sentiment de contrôle perçu lors du travail significativement plus faible. Conclusion : Les résultats incitent à prendre en charge de façon plus spécifique les vécus négatifs, voire traumatiques, de l’accouchement dans le post-partum afin de réduire leur impact potentiellement négatif sur les relations précoces mère – bébé. |

| Summary, etc. | Background: The aim of this study was to explore whether a mother’s negative childbirth experience could have a negative impact on early mother–infant relationships and if the perceived sense of control by the woman during labor is correlated with the quality of early relationships. Method: Two hundred and two mothers, who gave birth in the 4 months preceding the study, aged 18–39 years, responded to a sociodemographic questionnaire, to some questions about childbirth and to three scales: the Labor Agentry Scale, the Postpartum Bonding Instrument, and the Mother–Infant Bonding Scale. Results: Mothers with a reported negative childbirth experience had a significant lower quality of mother–infant relationship and a lower score of perceived sense of control during labor than mothers who reported a positive experience. Conclusion: These results urge professionals to handle more carefully the negative, or even traumatic, experiences of childbirth in the puerperium period in order to reduce its potential negative impact on early mother–infant relationship. |
