| Summary, etc. | La notion d’« autoexotisme » est le plus souvent synonyme, dans les études littéraires et musicales, de pratique automutilatrice, dénotant l’acceptation passive d’une subjugation culturelle et la perpétuation des constructions hégémoniques de la culture dominante. En réévaluant la valeur « ex-centrique », « ex-centriste » et « dé-centralisante » des Amours jaunes (1873) de Tristan Corbière (1845-1875), cet essai entend souligner au contraire la réappropriation par la culture dite dominée d’un exotisme revalorisé en mode de création. En se fondant sur de récents débats dans le domaine des études postcoloniales et de la World Literature, cette nouvelle réflexion sur l’« autoexotisme » tente de dépasser les frontières et la logique de l’État-nation (Paris vs. Province) afin de réexaminer la contribution littéraire des poètes provinciaux français au xixe siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | In literary and music studies, “autoexoticism” has generally been seen as a self-harming practice, denoting the subjugated culture’s passive acceptance and perpetuation of hegemonic exotic constructions from the dominant culture. By revisiting the “ex-centric”, “ex-centrist”, and “de-centralizing” value of Tristan Corbière’s Les Amours jaunes (1873), the aim of this article is to nuance the understanding of “autoexoticism” and show that it might also be seen as an active, creative, and somewhat empowering re-appropriation by the so-called dominated culture. Building on recent debates in Postcolonial and World Literature studies, this essay attempts to move beyond the borders and logic of the Nation state (Paris vs Province) so as to reconsider the literary contribution of nineteenth-century provincial poets in their own right. |
