| Summary, etc. | Deux des fonctions principales de l'Ars moriendi sont mises en évidence dans cet article : encadrer et guider. Sa technique « audiovisuelle », qui recourt au texte parlé et écrit et à l'image, est également analysée. Cela mène à une réflexion sur l'utilisation de l'image dans le cadre de la prédication et sur le mode d'émission et de réception du message contenu dans l'opuscule qui contribue à promouvoir le rôle médiateur de l'Église, le recours aux intercesseurs et aux sacrements, et qui participe à une individualisation de la mort et à une christianisation des attitudes qui y sont liées. Il apparaît comme un véritable guide pratique et normatif, propose de correctes dévotions et fournit le minimum de connaissances religieuses requis pour bien vivre et bien mourir. Le format de l'ouvrage en fait un outil maniable et peu encombrant pour les prédicateurs qui peuvent alors baser leurs sermons sur un programme iconographique qui, évoquant notamment les psaumes, fournit la structure de leur discours. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper highlights two of the main functions of the Ars moriendi : how to coach and how to guide. Its « audio visual » technique, combines written and spoken texts as well as images is also analysed. This leads to comment on the use of images in preaching and on the modes of transmission and reception of the message conveyed in a booklet that contributed to promote the Church as mediator and recourse to intercessors and the sacraments, and that played a part in the individualisation of death and in the christianisation of attitudes connected to death. It appears as a practical and normative guide, laying out proper devotions and providing the basic religious knowledge that is necessary to a good death. Its pocket sized format made it easy to refer to by the preachers who could thus base their sermons on an iconographical support which, through references to the psalms in particular, provided a structure to their speech. |
